Branding Your Digital Workspace

Branding Your Digital Workspace image

Did you know you can customize your digital workspace (computer, email, online profile, and more) to be “on brand” with the Johns Hopkins University visual identity?

Whether you’re new to Johns Hopkins University or an existing employee setting up a new computer, we’ll outline how you can professionally personalize your work tools and add some Blue Jay pride!

MyJH Profile

MyJH is the online front door through which hundreds of Hopkins-related tools are available. You can search the Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED), check your email, manage your password, and more through myJH. And in myJH, you can access myProfile, which is your entry into the Johns Hopkins Enterprise Directory (JHED). This is where you’ll control your personal account information, set visibility preferences about your personal information, change your password, opt in to emergency alerts, and more.

Follow the steps provided by myJH Support to update your profile: https://myjhsupport.jh.edu/myprofile/

Email Signature

It’s important that all email communications sent by employees of Johns Hopkins University are consistent with our brand guidelines and accurately display the sender’s contact information and connection with the university.

All faculty and staff with an official Johns Hopkins (.edu) email account should use our branded email signature generator to create their default signature for all email communications. The signature’s clean design is responsive to mobile and desktop and displays consistently across the most commonly used email clients, including Microsoft Outlook.

Email Alias

An email alias is an address that allows you to forward emails from one mail account to your default (.edu) email account. They are often used as a replacement for long or difficult-to-remember addresses. If you are a faculty or staff member of Johns Hopkins University, you may elect to create a custom email alias. To create an email alias, follow the directions outlined by myJH Support: https://myjhsupport.jh.edu/how-do-i-create-an-email-alias/.

Desktop Wallpapers

Share your Blue Jay pride with a branded desktop wallpaper on your work computer. Occasional IT updates may reset your desktop background to the enterprise-wide default—if that happens, just redownload your preferred background image and reset your wallpaper.

Virtual Backgrounds

Represent Johns Hopkins University from anywhere with a branded virtual background for your Teams and Zoom meetings. We have ready-to-use backgrounds available in our Download Library, or you can access a customizable PowerPoint template in which you can highlight your department or unit.

Microsoft Templates

A PowerPoint presentation template and Word digital letterhead are available for download from the Brand Guidelines website. These templates are open to all Johns Hopkins University employees and students and do not require any special tools or paid accounts beyond the Microsoft Office Suite. Additional branded templates ready for download include a certificate, report, and flyer. With these templates, you are responsible for ensuring your finished product meets our brand guidelines and digital accessibility standards.

Additional templates are available to advanced users through our templated design portal, Marq. If you would like access to this resource, please complete our Template User Request form

Fonts

The university has four official brand typefaces, which can be requested for download from University Communications by employees whose job description includes graphic design. All other employees should use our approved font substitutions, Tahoma and Georgia, to create communication materials. This includes presentations, emails, flyers, etc. All websites should use approved web fonts. Learn more about our typography guidelines.

Social Media

JHU professionals should maintain a cohesive and recognizable digital presence that accurately reflects the university’s identity. A JHU-branded LinkedIn profile can reinforce this shared identity while allowing for individual expression. To brand your LinkedIn profile, you can:

  • Use a professional headshot or a high-quality photo appropriate for your role.
  • Ensure your job title and department are listed correctly and the company is set to “The Johns Hopkins University.”
  • Verify your affiliation by linking your JHU email to your LinkedIn account.

Once your profile is visually aligned with JHU’s brand, you can use LinkedIn to showcase your expertise, expand your professional reach, and elevate impact.
